Shipping Giant Focused on Utilizing Legacy of 2008 Games to Serve China Market

BEIJING, September 18, 2008 - Official Logistics and Express Delivery Sponsor of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, UPS (NYSE: UPS), today announced that it has satisfied its commitments to BOCOG as the Official Logistics and Express Delivery Sponsor of the Beijing 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games, successfully delivering a total of over 19 million items, the volume of which roughly equals to 150% of the size of the cavernous Water Cube. Shipments, including fragile competing equipment for athletes, winner certificates as well as time-sensitive film and media materials, were delivered with a zero accident rate by September 17, the end of Paralympics.

UPS has also arranged the delivery of Olympic Village FF&E (furniture fixture and equipment), luggage, NOC cargo, gift bags and the daily Olympic Village newspapers. Items delivered included the 80,000 pieces of inbound and outbound luggage for Olympic athletes, which is enough luggage to fill every permanent seat at the Bird's Nest. Among UPS' many logistics accomplishments was completely transforming the Olympic Village into the Paralympic Village to meet the specific needs of Paralympians just 26 hours after the Olympic athletes' departure.

"Since we began preparing for the Games, UPS has processed more than 10,000 tons of Olympics-related equipment, equivalent to approximately one and one-half times the weight of the steel frame used in the Water Cube, the iconic structure where most of the indoor aquatic events will be conducted," said Scott Davis, Chairman and CEO, UPS. "Throughout the Games, we are running at full speed with about 2,000 people serving on the UPS Olympic operations team."

"With the success of the 2008 Olympic and Paralympic Games, the UPS Olympic team has shown a commendable level of dedication to the Olympic movement and to China," said Yan Ligang, Director of the Logistics Department, BOCOG. "It has been a pleasure for BOCOG to join hands with UPS to make the best Olympic Games possible, and for this the entire UPS team should be proud."

In the process of serving the Olympic Games, UPS utilized its international network, the strength of its wholly-owned operations in China and its legacy of service to the Olympic Games to help make the 2008 Beijing Game the best Games ever. Proving to be one of UPS' greatest assets was its dedicated China team, which during Games' time deployed 2,000 personnel to assist BOCOG with shipping and logistics duties around the clock.

To insure that all of the shipping needs of athletes, media and visitors from dozens of regions and countries were met, four UPS Express Stores provided international express services at the Olympic and Paralympic Villages, the Media Village, Media Press Center and International Broadcast Center during the Games. Key items handled were materials from Olympic committees, Olympic souvenirs and competition uniforms and equipment. Among special deliveries made at the UPS Express Stores was shipping the uniforms of Men's Basketball Bronze Medal winner, Argentina.
