Twice the service Twice as easy
July 10th, 2008 - Shanghai, China -- Today, Staples, Inc.
(Nasdaq: SPLS) and UPS (NYSE: UPS) announced the launch of a co-branded store in
Shanghai in the heart of the city CBD. This is a result of the continued
cooperation between the two companies following the successful opening of the
first two Staples UPS Express outlets in Beijing in 2007.
Occupying an area of 330m2, the Shanghai branch is located in Xintiandi CBD
and will offer customers a range of solutions, including office supplies,
document processing services from the world's leading office products company,
and international shipping and packaging services from the world's largest
package delivery company. The store is dedicated to offering seamless business
solutions featuring a one-stop approach in which customers can purchase office
supplies in store or by phone. Customers can also arrange for shipping at the
store or place delivery orders and arrange for off-site pickups. UPS will
pick up shipments at the customer's office in the vicinity within 30 minutes of
the customer's call request.
"UPS is a strategic partner in Staples' expansion in China," said Weiguo Jin,
Managing Director of Staples (Asia) Investment Co., Ltd & Chairman of
Staples China. "Staples UPS Express in Beijing is a promising start to our
cooperation. This store will provide our Shanghai customers with optimal,
convenient services."
"This cooperation is about creating contact points with our customers and
doubling the service proposition for customers with international shipping and
office supplies needs," said Richard Loi, Head of China, Senior Vice President,
UPS Asia Pacific Region. "China is the most important market for UPS's
international business. We see the dynamism of the business environ here and
customers want the flexibility of dropping off their urgent shipments at a store
as well as the proximity to respond quickly to their requests. The lively mix of
businesses in Xintiandi CBD makes this the ideal location for our first
co-branded store here in Shanghai."
To better meet customer needs, the co-branded store will be open Monday to
Friday from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm and 8:30 am to 5:00 pm on Saturday.
