Sponsorship a Perfect Fit with Company's Volunteer Initiatives
MISSISSAUGA, ON, September 5, 2007 - UPS today announced it will sponsor the Volunteer VIFF Crew Program for the 26th Vancouver International Film Festival, taking place September 27-October 12.
"We are proud that UPS can support this worthy volunteer program for a great event like the Vancouver International Film Festival," says Mike Tierney, President of UPS Canada. "One of our goals is to get people involved in volunteerism so they see the benefits and develop a passion for community service."
Volunteers are the lifeblood of the Vancouver festival. They lead many of the event's activities, including meeting guests at the airport, selling tickets, providing information to the media, working at the festival galas and escorting film festival attendees to their seats.
This sponsorship fits with UPS's long-standing commitment to volunteerism. Every year, UPS organizes Global Volunteer Week to encourage employees to donate their time and talents to the betterment of local communities. Since 2003, UPS's Global Volunteer Week initiative has grown from roughly 1,000 volunteers to more than 20,000 employees who participated worldwide in 2006. As the official courier, UPS will deliver an estimated 350 films from cities across Canada and around the world for screening at the festival.
