Over Maximum Limits
Packages shipped from Europe, Asia, or Latin America to the U.S., Canada, or Puerto Rico with an actual weight of more than 150 pounds (70 kg), or that exceed 108 inches (270 cm) in length or a total of 130 inches (330 cm) in length and girth combined, as measured to determine their billable weight, are not accepted for transportation. These packages are subject to additional charges if found in the UPS system.

Packages shipped from the U.S., Canada, or Puerto Rico to Europe, Asia, or Latin America with an actual weight of more than 150 pounds (70 kg), or that exceed a total of 165 inches (419 cm) in length and girth combined, as measured to determine their billable weight, are not accepted for transportation. These packages are subject to additional charges if found in the UPS system.

Declared Value Charges for Protection Against Loss or Damage
Our competitive rates on protection against loss or damage can save you money and also provide responsible protection if the unexpected happens.

  • Protection against loss or damage is automatically provided free of charge for the value of a shipment up to $100CAD
  • If the value of your shipment is over $100CAD, you may declare a higher value and pay an additional charge for additional protection against loss or damages up to certain limits
  • You must enter a value in the Declared Value field on the UPS pickup record
  • The maximum Declared Value shall be no more than:
    • $50,000CAD for a single package
    • $50,000CAD for a C.O.D. package
    • $50,000CAD for a UPS Express™ C.O.D. package
    • $50,000CAD for a return package sent via 3 UPS Pickup Attempts Return Label
    • $50,000CAD for a package shipped via UPS Internet Shipping
    • $999CAD for a return package sent via UPS Print Return Label, UPS Print and Mail Return Label, UPS Electronic Return Label, and 1 UPS Pickup Attempt Return Label
    • $500CAD for a package shipped via a UPS drop box
    • $500CAD for a package containing jewelry, other than costume jewelry
    • $100CAD for a package containing cheques, phone cards, lottery tickets or gift cards
  • For all prepaid shipments, the charge for additional declared value will be billed to the sender
  • For all Freight Collect shipments, the charge for additional declared value will be billed to the receiver

Large Package Surcharge
A package is considered a "Large Package" when its length plus girth [(2 x width) + (2 x height)] combined exceeds 130 inches/330 centimetres, but does not exceed the maximum allowable UPS size of 165 inches/419 centimetres. An Additional Handling Charge will not be assessed when a Large Package Surcharge is applied.

Residential Delivery Service
UPS provides delivery service to residential addresses, as well as business addresses. A residential delivery is one made to a home, including a business operation out of a home, which does not have an entrance that is open to the public. For each residential delivery, an additional charge per shipment applies. You can calculate residential delivery service charges using the Additional Charges table.

Additional Handling Fee
This fee applies to the following:

  • Any article that is not fully encased in an outside shipping container
  • Any article that is encased in an outside shipping container made of metal or wood
  • Fabric rolls that are wrapped in plastic and are 60 inches or 152 centimeters or less in length are exempt from an additional handling charge
  • Any package that exceeds 60 inches or 152 cm in length
  • Any package with two sides that exceed 30 inches or 76 centimetres in length each
  • Shipments utilizing UPS Express™ packaging for shipments other than UPS Worldwide Express Plus™, UPS Express ™ Early A.M.®, UPS Worldwide Express™, UPS Express, UPS Express Saver™ or domestic UPS Expedited service
  • Shipments when the shipper's original declared shipment weight is less than the actual audited shipment weight
  • UPS also reserves the right to assess the additional handling charge for any package that in UPS's sole discretion, requires special handling. This charge may be applied to all packages without regard to the service level selected

UPS Express Early A.M. and UPS Worldwide Express Plus Out of Service Area
If a shipper inadvertently selects UPS Express Early A.M. or UPS Worldwide Express Plus service for a delivery destination that is not a UPS Express Early A.M. or UPS Worldwide Express Plus service point, UPS will provide the next-best level of service available. If the shipper later wishes to have their UPS bill adjusted to the lower level of service, the above administration fee will apply.

Extended Area Surcharge

Special Handling of Undeliverable Shipments to the U.S. and International Destinations
U.S. and International shipments refused by consignees, or that cannot be delivered for any other reason, will be held by UPS. The shipper will then be contacted for further instructions.

UPS Print Return Label
Using UPS Connect, account holders can produce this return label on their own computers and forward it to pickup locations. Using this return service, the maximum Declared Value is $999CAD per package.

Using UPS Connect, the account holder transmits a request for UPS to produce this return label and mail it to the pickup location. Using this return service, the maximum Declared Value is $999CAD per package.

UPS Electronic Return Label
Using UPS Connect, the account holder transmits a request for UPS to produce this return label and email it to the pickup location. Using this return service, the maximum Declared Value is $999CAD per package.

Authorized Return Service (ARS)
ARS is a contractual service that allows the account holder to order pre-printed return labels to send to their customers. Upon delivery of the returned package, the account holder is billed at the ARS rate agreed upon in the contract.

1 UPS Pickup Attempt
Utilizing UPS Automated Shipping Solutions, the requester transmits a request for UPS to produce this return label and take the label to the pickup location to attempt pickup. If the package is not ready at the time of the attempt, the label will be left for the customer to send the package later. Using this return service, the maximum Declared Value that can be made is $999CAD per package.

3 UPS Pickup Attempts
Utilizing UPS Automated Shipping Solutions, the requester transmits a request for UPS to produce this return label and take the label to the pickup location to attempt pickup. If the package is not ready at the time of the attempt, the return label will NOT be left with the customer. Instead, UPS will attempt pickup on each of the two following business days. Using this return service, the maximum Declared Value that can be made is $50,000CAD per package.
