UPS gears up for its 101st holiday season

Mississauga, ON, Nov. 27, 2008 - With more than a century's worth of experience in delivering millions of packages around the world in time for the holidays, UPS is once again giving Santa Claus a run for his money as it prepares for its 101st holiday Peak Season.

"The holiday rush is always a busy and exciting time for UPS, and this year will be no exception," said Mike Tierney, president of UPS Canada. "Our customers rely on us to provide the best possible service to ensure their packages arrive on time.  With our sophisticated logistics network, advanced technology and dedicated employees, we are more than ready to handle the busy season."

UPS delivers within three business days to 132 countries, representing 80 per cent of the world's population, making it the leader in global coverage and delivery commitment times. UPS is able to accommodate the surge in holiday volume because its worldwide package delivery network can expand quickly. At the same time, the company's robust technologies make it possible for customers to keep tabs on their packages while en route.

Adding speed and convenience to the shipping process is especially important during the busy holiday season.  UPS.com offers shippers an opportunity to track their packages online and confirm when they have been delivered.  Using UPS's easy-to-use services can help to relieve some stress by making the shipping of packages to friends and family worry-free.

Also, to ensure peace of mind during the holiday season, it's important for shippers to keep some key dates and tips in mind:

* Plan to ship your holiday packages as early as possible. You can ship within Canada and to the United States as late as Tuesday, Dec. 23 using UPS's express air services and still have packages arrive in time for Christmas.

* For those sending gifts to friends and families overseas, packages can be shipped using UPS's international express air services as late as Dec.19, depending on the destination country.

* Shippers should check UPS.com® to verify time-in-transit for their particular shipping destination. Shippers with questions about shipping options and proper packing techniques can also rely on the experts at their neighbourhood The UPS Store® locations.

UPS expects its busiest day overall this year will be Thursday, Dec. 18, while its busiest day for handling air packages will likely be Dec. 22.

The UPS Store has more than 300 locations in Canada that offer access to specially trained and certified packing experts who can make gift-giving easier and more efficient.  To find store locations, information on products and services, hours of operation, directions and maps, visit www.TheUPSStore.ca.
