UPS "A Perfect Fit" As Sponsor of L'oreal Fashionweek, Common Cloth
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Oct. 24, 2007 - A single piece of fabric can travel thousands of miles, touch hundreds of hands and cross countless borders before making its appearance on the catwalk.
As the logistics company responsible for bringing together hundreds of thousands of yards of fabric to the fashion industry, UPS not only is the official courier of L'Oréal Fashionweek but the proud sponsor of Canadian designer Common Cloth and its fashion show on Oct. 24 at 10 p.m.
"The creativity of fashion designers knows no bounds and the results of their talent transcend international borders as much as their apparel," said Ken O'Connell, vice president of business development, UPS Canada. "UPS's ingenuity can help new and established fashion designers remain globally competitive by providing them with the most effective opportunities to source and sell their wears globally."
Consider that a typical cross-border transaction involves 35 documents interfacing with 25 parties and must comply with more than 500 trade and law agreements. With that in mind, how does it all come together so designers can focus on lines and material rather than customs forms and transit times? How can Canadian designers tap into the U.S. market?
Just ask Coconut Grove Pads Inc., a company that manufactures intimate apparel and accessories that are in demand worldwide. In business for 10 years, Coconut Grove Pads is fast becoming a leading Canadian exporter within its market niche.
However, there have been challenges along the way for owner Hylton Karon. "My products are sought after by retailers throughout the U.S.," Karon explains. "To remain competitive, we needed to find a solution so our U.S.-based customers could do business with us as easily as with a U.S.-based business, without any border hassles.
"UPS's cross-border services allow returns to be handled with ease. UPS also collects cheques on delivery, which has assisted with new account servicing. We can also track all orders easily online, which gives us a competitive advantage," says Karon. "With the Canadian dollar at par with the U.S., I would encourage all businesses to consider using the right business partners, as every efficiency needs to be used to remain competitive."
