Greater Moncton - Exceptional Place To Do Business
Press Release

UPS Canada salutes the community during the company's 15th anniversary celebration

Moncton, NB, October 9, 2009 - Politicians and business and community leaders gathered today at UPS Canada's Customer Contact Centre to celebrate UPS's 15th anniversary in Moncton.

"Fifteen years ago when we opened this contact centre in Moncton, we knew it was a sound decision," said David Dressler, Director of Customer Service of UPS Canada. "Even through all our planning, we couldn't have imagined that the initial 150 jobs have grown almost ten-fold to 1,100. And the initial centre has evolved into three distinct operations serving Canada and operations across the world - all from New Brunswick."

UPS Canada opened the Customer Contact Centre on October 11, 1994 in Moncton, and today employs 453 people.  The following year, in 1995, UPS opened its Finance and Accounting Office in Moncton, employing 200 people to date, and then opened the National Customs Brokerage Office in Fredericton, employing 496 people to date.

"The phenomenal growth of UPS in Moncton and the province of New Brunswick is truly a reflection of the quality of employees we are able to attract and the positive environment for business in these communities," said Dressler. "As you already know, Greater Moncton and the province of New Brunswick have a lot to offer.

And it's not only UPS that has benefited from its decision to invest in Moncton.

"UPS is one of the largest employers in Moncton and they have made a significant impact on our community," said Mayor George LeBlanc, City of Moncton. "Since 1994, UPS has donated more than $2.5 million to local community groups and has contributed greatly to Greater Moncton's economy."On top of the community grants and employee contributions to local charities, UPS employees also volunteer countless hours to various organizations.

"Since UPS arrived in Moncton, they've been one of the largest contributors to our annual campaign," said Debbie McInnis, Executive Director, United Way of Greater Moncton and Southeastern NB Region Inc. "But it's not only the financial contribution that sets them apart; you can always count on willing volunteers from the organization. I know for a fact, that a great many charitable organizations in Southeast New Brunswick rely on the volunteers from UPS."

While so willing to give praise to local employees and the business community, Dressler is modest about his company's volunteer efforts. "Throughout our history at UPS, we've found that we grow by investing not only in our business, but also in the communities we serve."
