London Teen Awarded Prestigious Scholarship
Press Release

Recipient chosen for outstanding academic achievements,
participation in extracurricular activities, leadership in the community

London, ON, August 20, 2008 - Kyle Toth will venture to Wilfrid Laurier University in September with the help of the four-year James E. Casey scholarship from The UPS Foundation. Kyle, the 18-year-old son of UPS London Centre Business Manager Carl Toth, was chosen for this award for his exceptional academic performance and community involvement.

Up to $17,000 over a four-year period, the Casey Scholarship was named after UPS's founder and is open to children of UPS employees who plan to attend post-secondary education at a university. Kyle aims to earn a chemical engineering degree.

"This UPS scholarship has helped me and my family tremendously. This money will help me pursue my dream of becoming an engineer, without having to worry about the cost of my education," said Toth. "By offering scholarships to the children of employees, it shows UPS is not only committed to its employees, like my dad, but also to supporting its employees' families as well."

Kyle was chosen based on his outstanding commitment to academic achievement at Central Elgin Collegiate and extracurricular activities within his community. Kyle has played soccer for 14 years and won Most Valuable Player three years in a row. He's also been a participant in UPS's annual Global Volunteer program for the past three years and was recently named an Ontario Scholar.

Since 1963, UPS has handed out scholarships to children of its employees. This year it handed out three scholarships in Canada with a total annual commitment of over $7,000. The other two winners received George D. Smith Scholarships, which range between $1,000 and $2,000 per year of study at a Canadian college. Each year, UPS employees are encouraged to submit applications for their children, and entries are judged by Scholarship America, an independent external entity.

"The scholarships are just one of the ways UPS invests in the future of its employees and the communities in which it operates," said Mike Tierney, President of UPS Canada. "By supporting higher education and encouraging students to pursue their academic goals, we are engaging in the development of future leaders."

As part of the emphasis on ongoing education and learning, UPS is one of the few companies that offer a tuition reimbursement program in several of its major centres. Some employees attending college or university may qualify for reimbursement of a portion or all of their tuition fees by UPS.
