UPS Clocks Fastest Serves at 2008 Rogers Cup
Press Release

Shipping company official courier of Rogers Cup tennis tournaments in Toronto, Montreal

Mississauga, July 24, 2008 -- UPS Canada is tracking the speed of tennis serves instead of the progress of packages during the Rogers Cup tennis tournaments in Toronto and Montreal. UPS is a gold sponsor and the official courier of the Rogers Cup and will have radar clocks at both events to measure the speed of each player's serve.

"Thanks to UPS, we were able to deliver thousands of tickets to fans for the Toronto and Montreal tournaments," said Greg Wood, vice-president, corporate partnerships, Tennis Canada. "As a global brand, well-recognized for its superior delivery service, we're confident that UPS will be a reliable partner for our events."

The men's Rogers Cup, taking place July 19-27 at Toronto's Rexall Centre, features 56 of the world's best tennis players, including 2008 Wimbledon champion Rafael Nadal, world No. 1 player Roger Federer and defending Rogers Cup champion Novak Djokovic.  Additionally, former top player Boris Becker was inducted into the Rogers Cup Hall of Fame during a special ceremony at the tournament on Monday, July 21.

The women's event, which takes place July 26 to August 3 at Montreal's Uniprix Stadium, will see 56 tennis stars compete, including the Wimbledon champion Venus Williams, Maria Sharapova and top-ranked Ana Ivanovic.

Toronto tournament attendees are invited to test the speed of their own serves to win prizes at the UPS Smash Cage, located in the retail village at the Rexall Centre.

"We felt it was a natural fit for UPS to sponsor a world-class event like the Rogers Cup," said Greg Kane, vice president of UPS Canada. "Similar to the way we strive to deliver high-quality service around the globe, the Rogers Cup event delivers top international tennis talent to Canadian tennis fans."

UPS Canada is also involved with Tennis Canada's Building Tennis Communities strategy, by sponsoring Kid's Tennis Day in New Brunswick.  For the past three summers, this event has brought together 450 kids, from ages five to 13, to take part in a fun-filled day of tennis for all skill levels.  Kids benefit from professional on-court instruction and can keep up their game by taking home new tennis racquets, courtesy of UPS.
