Canada's First Female UPS Driver Masters The Road
Press Release

UPS Driver Reaches Career Milestone of 540,000 Accident-Free Kilometres

Mississauga, March 7, 2007 - UPS today honours its first female driver in Canada, Kathy Cianci, of London, Ontario, who celebrates 25 years of accident-free driving. Kathy is UPS Canada's most senior female driver among its 2,230 full and part-time drivers. Over the course of her career at UPS, Kathy has logged more than 540,000 accident-free kilometres, equivalent to circling the globe 13.5 times, and delivering more than one million packages.

Kathy is also the first Canadian woman inducted into UPS's "Circle of Honour", an elite group of 4,202 active drivers worldwide who have steered clear of accidents for 25 years or more.   Collectively, UPS's active Circle of Honour drivers have compiled nearly 117,000 years of accident-free driving.

"UPS is committed to the safety of all our drivers as well as those with whom we share the roads," said Mike Tierney, president UPS Canada. "Kathy is a great example of this commitment."

All UPS drivers are taught safe driving methods from their first day of classroom training, including the company's comprehensive "Space and Visibility" safety course.  The training continues throughout their careers.

"I am extremely proud to be a driver for UPS," said Kathy Cianci. "With more cars on the road and increased distractions, it is critical to practice safe driving habits."

Kathy credits her safe driving record to UPS's driver training program which has helped her fine tune her skills. These include being attentive to those around you, being responsive to sudden changes, and being defensive by driving with safety in mind.

UPS's 102,000 drivers worldwide are among the safest on the roads, logging more than three billion kilometres a year while averaging less than one accident for every million and a half kilometers driven. More information on UPS and safety is available at pressroom.ups.com/safety.
