New Facility Doubles Local Capacity in Growing Community
MISSISSAUGA, ON, Jan. 22, 2008 -- UPS Canada and its familiar fleet of brown trucks will be seen regularly on the streets of Kelowna, Penticton, Vernon and Westbank after today's opening of a new, local operations facility in Kelowna.
Federal MP for Kelowna-Lake Country Ron Cannan and Kelowna City Councillor Michele Rule formally celebrated the opening of the facility today at an event held at a Kelowna-area The UPS Store®. The 16,500 sq. ft. UPS facility has a sorting capacity of 4,000 packages per day, allowing UPS to maintain reliable service levels well into the future.
"This facility is yet another example of UPS Canada's consistent growth and we are proud to have our newest facility in the strong and vibrant community of Kelowna," said Mike Tierney, president of UPS Canada. "We look forward to helping local businesses improve their bottom line and providing local residents with the reliable service they have come to expect from UPS."
UPS has invested $1.5 million into the Kelowna operation. A fleet of 17 UPS trucks will service Kelowna, as well as Penticton, Vernon and Westbank. Customers can have their packages picked up from a UPS driver or ship packages directly at one of the two The UPS Store locations in Kelowna or at The UPS Store locations in Penticton, Vernon and Westbank.
"As one of the top three fastest growing business cities in B.C., Kelowna business is positioned for success," said Tierney. "We want our customers to know we are close by and addressing the needs of the local community."
