First Canadian Appointed To Lead UPS Canada
Press Release

Tierney Focused on Driving Canada's Global Competitiveness

MISSISSAUGA, Feb. 6, 2007 - UPS (NYSE:UPS) today announced Mike Tierney as president of UPS Canada.  As the first Canadian to be appointed to the position, Tierney will draw on his experience and knowledge of global commerce to drive performance and growth in the country.

Tierney's focus for UPS Canada is centered on enabling Canadian business to reach new markets and succeed in an increasingly competitive global economy.

"Companies need to take advantage of the growing opportunities available through global trade," said Tierney.  "By the year 2015, some 30 percent of global GDP is expected to be cross-border international trade1.  Yet a recent report from Industry Canada indicates only 1.4 percent of small businesses are currently targeting cross-border markets for growth."

UPS technology and the company's expansive global infrastructure are key to helping customers ship with ease to fast-growing markets such as China.  According to McKinsey and Co. projections, urban households in China will constitute one of the largest consumer markets in the world by 2025.

Tierney, 50, replaces Glenn Rice, who has accepted responsibility for UPS package operations in eight U.S. states encompassing New York, New Jersey and New England, with over 44,000 employees.

A 25-year veteran of the company, Tierney began his career with UPS as a package car driver in Mississauga, Ontario, in 1981.  Since then, his strong leadership and business acumen brought him to progressive management positions in customs brokerage, business development, operations and public affairs.  During his tenure, Tierney played a critical role in the development of UPS Canada's infrastructure and worked actively with governing bodies to facilitate trade between Canada and the United States.

Prior to his new position, Tierney led operations in a U.S. district that encompassed Arkansas, northern Mississippi and western Tennessee.

UPS Canada has a long list of leaders who have moved on to positions of greater responsibility.  The most recent example is former Canada President Alan Gershenhorn, who recently was appointed president of UPS International.

UPS Canada plays a key role in the company's global operations. With more than 8,000 employees, a fleet of 2,500 delivery vehicles and more than 1,000 service points, it serves every address in the country and delivers Canadian packages to over 200 countries and territories.

UPS, which celebrates its 100th anniversary in 2007, is the world's largest package delivery company and a global leader in supply chain services, offering an extensive range of options for synchronizing the movement of goods, information and funds.  Headquartered in Atlanta, Ga., UPS serves more than 200 countries and territories worldwide.  UPS's stock trades on the New York Stock Exchange (UPS) and the company can be found on the Web at www.ups.com.
